Largest-ever haul for a Democratic challenger in this period as Theresa continues to build grassroots momentum and emerges as unity candidate in Iowa’s Senate race
Theresa Greenfield for Iowa will report raising $1.48 million in the pre-primary reporting period, the campaign announced today, the most ever for a Democratic challenger for U.S. Senate in Iowa in this time period.
In less than six weeks, the campaign has received nearly 3,400 contributions from Iowans in all 99 counties, bringing the total number of contributions from Iowa to nearly 19,000 since Theresa launched her campaign less than a year ago.
The campaign will also announce an average online contribution of less than $18 for the cycle – the latest sign that Theresa has the grassroots momentum needed to flip this seat. This comes after a new poll showing that Theresa is running neck-and-neck against Senator Ernst.
“Theresa’s record-breaking pre-primary filing is the latest sign that she’s the strongest candidate to unify Iowans and build the grassroots coalition needed to defeat Senator Ernst,” said campaign manager Jordanna Zeigler. “Theresa is committed to fighting for every last vote in every corner of this state. Her support today from Iowans in all 99 counties is proof that voters are listening, and that they’re ready to elect her to fight for them in the U.S. Senate.”
Today’s historic fundraising announcement also comes after Theresa has earned the endorsement of dozens of Iowa leaders and more than twenty local labor unions and organizations representing more than 70,000 Iowa workers – including an early endorsement from the Iowa AFL-CIO. Theresa’s commitment to building the strongest grassroots team in the race continues to pay off.
The Greenfield campaign today released an ad highlighting Theresa’s strength as a unity candidate, and her support from leaders across the state, including Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer, Congressman Dave Loebsack, and former Iowa First Lady Christie Vilsack, as well as from leaders like Senator Amy Klobuchar, Senator Elizabeth Warren, and Mayor Pete Buttigieg. In addition to postponing in-person events, the Greenfield for Iowa campaign is taking precautions by having all staff work remotely and encouraging social distancing practices at all times. The campaign also recently launched a new webpage to help Iowans vote by mail so that all Iowans can participate safely in the upcoming election.
